R. K. Roy, Mayank Thakur and V. K. Dixit performed a quantitative analysis of mice hair growth after treatment with petroleum ether extract of Eclipta prostrata (5%). The treated group exhibited a greater number of hair follicles in the anagenic phase (69 ± 4) which were higher as compared to the control group (47 ± 13). They concluded that petroleum ether extract of Eclipta alba increases hair growth in rats by converting follicles from the telogen (resting) to the anagen (growth) phase. The hair growth promoting effect is similar to that of minoxidil.

Pyrixodine Reduces Hair Loss Especially in  Alopecia of Telogenic Pathomechanism

In the clinical and trichological examination (trichogram and hair loss evaluation) conducted comparatively before and after the treatment in 46 women between pubescence and 30 years of age who had symptoms of diffuse alopecia. It was revealed that Pyridoxine administered parenterally for a period of several weeks induces improvement in the hair condition in a number of women and it reduces hair loss especially in alopecia of telogenic patomechanism.” Alopecia of telogenic pathomechanism  refers to hair loss that is caused by a change in the body’s internal system  which causes a large number of hair follicles to simultaneously switch from the anagen (growing) phase into the telogen (resting) phase, thus eventually falling out.
